CIMA International Business Challenge
2008-2009
Introduction
CIMA International Management Accounting Business Challenge Competition in China is a
three-phase process and is open to undergraduates of public and private colleges/universities
currently pursuing in China. The competition will be held in four regions of China, i.e. the East,
the West, the North and the South.
The business challenge consists of a preliminary round where participants submit their analysis of
a given case study. The second round will be held in each competition region.
There will be four teams competing for the champion in each region. In the final round, the
champions from each region shall compete for the challenge trophy and other prizes. The
champion of China will be invited to Malaysia for the international competition.
Registration
Participating teams must submit their registration form to CIMA China, by 11th Oct. 2008.
Eligibility
1. All full-time undergraduates who are enrolled in universities, colleges or other educational
nstitution during academic year 2008/2009 are eligible to participate in the competition
2. Each team shall consist of four members and all members of the team must be enrolled in
the same college/university/Institution。
3. A participant cannot be a member of more than one team

Competition Process
Phase 1
We will mail the competition case to the registed team on 12th Oct 2008.
All teams must submit a written report of the case analysis by 26 Oct 2008. Late submissions will
be not accepted. Acknowledgement of receipt of the written report will be sent to the
participating teams via email.
Each report should have a cover page that indicates:
􀁹 Name of the college/university/institution
􀁹 Names of all team members
􀁹 Email address and telephone numbers of all team members
The panel of judges will consist of prominent CIMA members and management elites from
corporations and academicians.
The top four teams will be selected to compete in Phase 2. The results of phase 1 shall be
announced to participants on 10 Nov. 2008 via email.
Phase 2
The top four regional teams will be notified of the case study via email by 12 Nov. 2008
All teams are required to submit:
1. A written report of the business of the business solutions. The report should be typed using
Times New Roman 12, with 1.5 line spacing and a margin of 1 inch on all sides. Each report
should have a cover page that indicates:
􀁹 Name of the college/university/institution
􀁹 Names of all team members
􀁹 Email address and telephone numbers of all team members
2. A summary handout not exceeding 2 pages on the strategic business solutions of the case
study
3. Presentation slides (Power Point format and to be saved in CD). No Changes to the
presentation slides will be allowed after the submission.
The complete report, summary handout and presentation slides must reach CIMA by 24 Nov.
2008. Last submissions will not be accepted. Acknowledgements of receipts of the submission
will be sent to the teams via email.
The second round will be held at each area early Dec. The top four teams will prepare a
presentation for the panel of judges, based on their strategic business solutions for the case study.
Each team will be given 20 minutes to complete the presentation and 10 minutes for Q&A.
The panel of judges will consist of prominent CIMA members and management elites from the
industry and academicians.
Phase 3
The regional champions will be notified of the case study via email in April, 2009.
All regional champions are required to submit:
1. A written report of the business of the business solutions.
The report should be typed using Times New Roman 12, with 1.5 line spacing and a margin
of 1 inch on all sides. Each report should have a cover page that indicates:

􀁹 Names of all team members
􀁹 Email address and telephone numbers of all team members

The third round will be held at Shanghai in May 2009. The top teams will prepare a presentation
for the panel of judges, based on their strategic business solutions for the case study. Each team
will be given 20 minutes to complete the presentation and 10 minutes for Q&A.
The panel of judges will consist of prominent CIMA members and Business Elites from the
industry and academicians.
Rules and Regulations
By participating in the CIMA Management Accounting Business Challenge 2008, each team
agrees to accept the following rules, terms and conditions.
1. Failure to comply with any rules, terms and conditions of the competition may result in the
participating team’s disqualification and/or the forfeiture of the team’s interest in the prize
and award of the prize to an alternate winner.
2. CIMA Malaysia reserves the right to modify or amend the prizes, rules, terms and conditions
of the competitions at any time.
3. The judges’decision is final and no appeals will be entertained.
4. All participants shall agree to allow their name and photographs to be used for publicity
purposes by CIMA.
5. CIMA holds the intellectual Property rights for all materials submitted by the participating
teams for the competition.
6. The organizer will not be responsible for entries lost in transit.
7. In the Final, participants are advised to be punctual. Those who arrive later than 15 inutes
after the starting time will be automatically disqualified.
Judging Process & Criteria
Phase 1& Phase 2& Phase 3
1. The report must be typed in English and a list of references must be given.
2. Each entry must not exceed 2000 words for Phase 1 and Phase 2. Entries exceeding the
stipulated number of words will be disqualified.
3. Graphs, charts and tables related to the topic can be regarded as appendices.
4. The report must be typed in Times New Roman, font size 12, line spacing 1.5 and a
5. margin of 1 inch on all sides
6. The report will be judged based on:

􀁹 Analytical skills and critical thinking
􀁹 Fluency and grammar of the language
􀁹 Flow of thoughts and coherence
Phase 2& Phase 3
1. Each team will be allocated 5 minutes for setup, 20 minutes to present their case and 10
minutes for Q&A session.
2. Every team member must participate in the presentation.
3. Dress code is business attire
4. The timekeeper will ring the bell once 5 minuts before the end time, and the team will need
to conclude the presentation.
5. The timekeeper will ring the bell twice when the time is up and the team must stop their
presentation immediately.
6. A Q&A session will be held after the presentation. 10 minutes are allocated to each team.
